Filler Restrictions Best Practices

Work from biggest to smallest – Start with the most global rules first. It is entirely valid to create restrictions at the design level only but the best practice but the recommendation is to begin with the most general restrictions first.

Use Bundles – Two different bundles can link to the same design. But those bundles can have different restrictions and settings. Use bundles to cover the bulk of your restrictions.

Less is more – The fewer places your restrictions live in, the easier it is to for different members of your team to debug a problem.

Schedule Restrictions on Fillers

Schedule Restrictions on Fillers are independent from Schedule Restrictions on the Filler Bundles. Therefore a Schedule Restriction on the Design will completely override the Schedule Restrictions set on Bundles.

In the following example:

  Schedule Restriction
Bundle Every weekday: 8 am to 8 pm
Design 1 No Restrictions
Design 2 Every Monday 12 pm to 8 pm
Design 3 Every Saturday 12 pm to midnight

The final Schedule will be as follows:

Troubleshooting Filler Restrictions

When in doubt, if a design is not playing on a face, the first place digital schedulers should begin their restrictions trouble shooting is by comparing the bundle schedule to the design schedule.

The second place digital schedulers should look when debugging why a design is not playing is by comparing the bundle site restriction to the site restriction for the individual design.
