How is the Avail % Calculated?
The Avail % percentage depends on the Type of Buy that you are using.
If you are using a fixed Frequency Type of Buy (fixed frequency of campaign playout expressed in plays per loop), the percentage is the amount of time you can fit your fixed amount compared to the total time. It is calculated as follows:
avail time / total time
The time
could be, for instance, hours.
For example, let's assume the following:
- The slot duration is 15 seconds.
- The loop duration is 90 seconds.
- The saturation is 1.
- Today we have a Sum Slot Duration of 70 seconds, so 70 seconds out of the 90 seconds loop is used.
- Tomorrow we have a Sum Slot Duration of 90 seconds, so the loop is fully used.
- Next Day we have a Sum Slot Duration of 76 seconds, so 76 seconds out of the 90 seconds loop is used.
So:
- Today 70s + 15s < 90, it fits.
- Tomorrow 90s + 15s > 90s, it does not fit.
- Next day 76s+15s > 90s, it does not fit.
The Avail % is 24 /72, so 33.33%.
If you are using a Fixed SoV Type of Buy (fixed percentage of loop to be used for this campaign), the percentage is the amount of time you can fit your fixed amount compared to the total time. It is calculated as follows:
avail time / total time
The time
could be, for instance, hours.
For example, let's assume the following:
- We have a SoV of 50%. The requested time is 50% of the loop length, but it can change (different screen schedule).
- The loop duration is 90 seconds for Today.
- The loop duration is 120 seconds for Tomorrow and Next Day
- Today we have a Sum Slot Duration of 50 seconds, so 50 seconds out of the 90 seconds loop is used.
- Tomorrow we have a Sum Slot Duration of 50 seconds, so 50 seconds out of the 120 seconds loop is used.
- Next Day we have a Sum Slot Duration of 80 seconds, so 80 seconds out of the 120 seconds loop is used.
So:
- Today 50s + 45s > 90, it does not fit.
- Tomorrow 50s + 60s < 120s, it fits.
- Next day 80s+60s > 120s, it does not fit.
The Avail % is 24 /72, so 33.33%.
If you are using a Takeover Type of Buy, the space must be free at all times for 100%, otherwise it is 0%.
For example, let's assume the following:
- We have a Takeover of 50%. The requested time is 50% of the loop length, but it can change (different screen schedule).
- The loop duration is 90 seconds for Today.
- The loop duration is 120 seconds for Tomorrow and Next Day
- Today we have a Sum Slot Duration of 50 seconds, so 50 seconds out of the 90 seconds loop is used.
- Tomorrow we have a Sum Slot Duration of 50 seconds, so 50 seconds out of the 120 seconds loop is used.
- Next Day we have a Sum Slot Duration of 80 seconds, so 80 seconds out of the 120 seconds loop is used.
So:
- Today 50s + 45s > 90, it does not fit.
- Tomorrow 50s + 60s < 120s, it fits.
- Next day 80s+60s > 120s, it does not fit.
The space is not free at all times, so the Avail % is 0%.
If you are using Impressions, Budget, or Plays Type of Buy, the percentage is any free space in the loop that would contribute to the goal. It is calculated as follows:
avail time / total time
The time
could be, for instance, hours.
As you don’t want any particular amount of time, a ‘small amount’ time counts as available (a saturation of 0.01). This is the minimal saturation that is required for an ad to play.
For example, let's assume the following:
- We have a goal of X impressions.
- The slot duration is 15 seconds.
- The requested time is 15*0.01 = 0.15s.
- The loop duration is 90 seconds.
- Today we have a Sum Slot Duration of 89.5 seconds, so 89.5 seconds out of the 90 seconds loop is used.
- Tomorrow we have a Sum Slot Duration of 90 seconds, so the loop is fully used.
- Next Day we have a Sum Slot Duration of 80 seconds, so 80 seconds out of the 90 seconds loop is used.
So:
- Today 89.5s + 0.15s < 90s, it fits.
- Tomorrow 90s + 0.15s > 90s, it does not fit.
- Next day 80s+ 0.15s < 90s, it fits.
The Avail % is 48/72, so 66.66%.
If you are using the following types of buy:
- Campaign Average SoV – The availability percentage uses the same method as Fixed SoV (How is Avail % Calculated for Fixed SoV ToB?).
- Daily Average SoV – The availability percentage uses the same method as Fixed SoV (How is Avail % Calculated for Fixed SoV ToB?).
- Daily Average Per Screen SoV – The availability percentage is the number of days that you could reach your average SoV divided by the total number of days.
For example, let's assume the following:
- We have a 50% daily average per screen SoV proposal item.
- The loop duration is 90 seconds.
- Today 00-12 we have a Sum Slot Duration of 70 seconds, so 70 seconds out of the 90 seconds loop is used.
- Today 12-24 we have a Sum Slot Duration of 40 seconds, so 40 seconds out of the 90 seconds loop is used.
- Tomorrow we have a Sum Slot Duration of 0 second, so the loop is fully available.
- Next Day we have a Sum Slot Duration of 40 seconds, so 40 seconds out of the 90 seconds loop is used.
You can fit 50% Average SoV Tomorrow and Next Day.
However, you cannot fit 50% on average for Today, so that counts as an unavailable day. Therefore we have 2 out of 3 days capable of delivering 50%, so the availability percentage would then be 66.67%.
