About Preemptible Proposal Items
This section describes how Broadsign Direct deals with preemptible proposal items.
You can define a proposal item at a preemptible rate. A typical use case is to offer bonus campaigns to your customers that would only play if their associated screens are still available at the time they are supposed to play.
If the screens offered at a preemptible rate are being booked for non preemptible proposal items, the following applies:
- The booked proposal items take priority over the preemptible proposal items.
- The preemptible proposal items are no longer available.
Preemptible Proposal Items
Preemptible proposal items are proposal items that are treated as relatively low priority, which should be delivered when higher-priority proposal items are not already scheduled to play. Broadsign Direct allows you to strategically designate and assign these proposal items with just one click of your mouse.
Whether the preemptible proposal item is used to reach a frequency goal or as bonus air time, once submitted, Broadsign Control will automatically calculate whether the preemptible proposal items (Broadsign Control campaigns) can play according to availability, removing the unnecessary hassle of manually figuring out when and where to schedule a preemptible proposal item.
You can set a proposal item as preemptible in the Proposal Builder, as described in Define a Proposal Item as Preemptible.
The following rules apply:
- A proposal item (screen or package) can only be set as preemptible when it has a Frequency Type of Buy (ToB).
- A proposal item can only be set as preemptible when it has a Savedstatus.
- If a proposal item is Submitted, it is not possible to modify it.
- If a proposal item is Held, you must remove the hold before making it preemptible.
- Rebalancing prioritization does not apply to a preemptible proposal item. Therefore, the Rebalancing Priority field on the proposal item is not displayed.
Once proposals are submitted, the information will flow to Broadsign Control, which will calculate whether the preemptible proposal items can play according to availability. For more information, see Broadsign Control Behavior.
Availability Check Process
Preemptible proposal items do not apply any availability pressure on the inventory. Therefore, no availability checks are performed when holding or submitting them for booking. See Availability Check Feature for more details.
Fill Rate
Screen fill rate details will not show any preemptible proposal items. See Fill Rate Column for more details.
Proposal PDF
Proposal PDF will not include preemptible proposal items. See Proposal PDF for more details.
Priority
When a player’s loop is not completely full with normal campaigns, it will fill it up as much as it can using preemptible campaigns. Lower priorities are filled first, until all preemptible campaigns are exhausted or the loop duration has been met. Campaigns with higher values will be the first to be removed from the playlist.
If the campaign is booked or managed by Broadsign Direct, the priority value is synced between Broadsign Direct and Broadsign Control.
Priority values can range between +999 and -999, excluding 0.
Preemptible proposal items created in Broadsign Direct are automatically created in Broadsign Control as preemptible campaigns.
Preemptible campaigns created in Broadsign Control are not imported into Broadsign Direct. No performance report or proof of play are imported for preemptible campaigns.
For more information on preemptible campaigns, see Preemption Page in the Broadsign Control documentation.
A proposal item can be set as preemptible in the Proposal Builder by toggling the feature on or off.
To set a proposal item as preemptible:
- Access the Proposal Builder.
- Add the screens or packages that you want to set as preemptible.
- In the list of proposal items, toggle the Preemptible setting of the proposal item.
- Assign a Priority value to this campaign, remembering that campaigns with higher values will be the first to be removed from the playlist.
Note: The screens or packages must have the Frequency Type of Buy (ToB).
Priority values can range between +999 and -999, excluding 0.
If the campaign is booked or managed by Broadsign Direct, the priority value is synced between Broadsign Direct and Broadsign Control.
