Use the Reallocation Feature
This page describes how to use the Reallocation feature on your domain.
Note: Domain settings are available only to users assigned the Admin role. For more information, see User Privileges by Role.
The Reallocation feature (Optimization Engine) optimizes your network by shuffling the Held or Booked proposal items (campaigns) to accommodate new proposal items. The feature allows you to say yes! more often and create new opportunities to fit new proposal items that, without Reallocation, may not have appeared to be possible.
Reallocation is used when you are checking for availability to quickly find a solution to an unsuccessful availability check. When booking the proposal item, Reallocation will compute the best-optimized solution to your problem. Every proposal item currently booked or running will maintain its ability to deliver, while also freeing up space for the proposal that you are looking to book.
Without Reallocation implemented, the daily variance in impression buys driven by nightly Rebalancing can unexpectedly and unnecessarily block space that could otherwise be sold by a seller as a full “spot.”
The following are some of the benefits that Reallocation brings:
- Maximizes revenue by allowing the flexibility to reallocate "repetitions" or "impressions".
- Yield optimization by optimizing the outcome of your network at the availability check process (before holding or booking).
- No manual re-shuffling of proposal items(increased operational efficiency).
- Reduces the “holes” often associated with booking digital proposal items.
- Creates opportunities to fit new proposal items that would previously have been declined due to perceived lack of availability.
- Avoids the unexpected and unnecessarily blocking of “full spots” that might occur through the daily variance in impression buys driven by nightly rebalancing.
Reallocation selects proposal items to re-shuffle by determining the range date based on the proposal item start date and end date. Then, it searches all the proposal item's goals type that can be reallocated to help achieve the new proposal item.
Note: When a user holds a proposal item, Reallocation is triggered. If the user then decides to release the hold, the reallocation of proposal items is not undone.

When enabled, Reallocation allows you to readjust the saturation of existing proposal items within the campaign parameters to maximize the space available. The following types of buys are supported:
- Budget Goal
- Impressions Goal
- Play Goal
- Average SoV
- Campaign Average SoV
- Daily Average SoV
- Daily Average SoV per Screen
Note: Reallocation does not apply to Takeovers.
The following table describes Reallocation behavior for each type of buy supported:
Type of Buy | Behavior |
Frequency | Saturation has to be fully available on all the selected screens during all the times that the screens are active. |
Share of Voice – Fixed | Share of voice percentage has to be fully available on all the selected screens during all the times that the screens are active. |
Share of Voice – Campaign Average | Share of voice percentage has to be fully available for the whole campaign. Reallocation respects the Maximum saturation parameter on a domain if it exists. |
Share of Voice – Daily average | Share of voice percentage has to be fully available on all the selected screens. Reallocation respects the Maximum saturation parameter on a domain if it exists. |
Share of Voice – Daily average per screen | Share of voice percentage per screen has to be fully available on all the selected screens. Reallocation respects the Maximum saturation parameter on a domain if it exists. |
Impressions Goal | Reallocation will attempt to maximize the impressions up to the proposal item target. Reallocation respects the Maximum saturation parameter on a domain if it exists. Reallocation will try to smooth the distribution of playtime (the limitation here is that some screens may not play depending on their availability). |
Budget Goal | Reallocation will attempt to maximize the budget up to the proposal item target. Reallocation respects the Maximum saturation parameter on a domain if it exists. Reallocation will try to smooth the distribution of playtime (the limitation here is that some screens may not play depending on their availability). |
Plays Goal | Reallocation will attempt to maximize the repetitions up to the campaign target. Reallocation respects the Maximum saturation parameter on a domain if it exists. Reallocation will try to smooth the distribution of playtime (the limitation here is that some screens may not play depending on their availability). |
Note: Reallocation will not consider partial availability solutions for the Frequency, Fixed SoV, Campaign average SoV, Daily average SoV or Daily average SoV per screen types of buy. This is because partial availability solutions would not respect the core goal of the type of buy. For these types of buy, so far as Reallocation is concerned, the goal can either be achieved or it cannot. Therefore if a fully available solution cannot be found, no reallocation of any blocking proposal items will be undertaken and the application will fall back to the conventional availability.
Reallocation takes into account the Rebalancing Priorities that are set in the Domain settings only for proposal items that are held or booked after Reallocation is enabled. All proposal line items already held or booked before Reallocation is enabled become fixed and so their distribution cannot be affected by Reallocation.
The following describes the redistribution of proposal items according to their priority:
- P1 proposal items can trigger a redistribution of other P1 proposal items, and P2, P3, and P4 proposal items.
- P2 proposal items can trigger a redistribution of other P2 proposal items, and P3 and P4 proposal items.
- P3 proposal items can trigger a redistribution of other P3 proposal items, and P4 proposal items.
- P4 proposal items can trigger a redistribution of other P4 proposal items.
Proposal item redistribution as part of Reallocation at time of booking will not cause a lower priority proposal item to under deliver at the expense of a higher priority one. The potential result is that the lower priority proposal item will be redistributed to accommodate the higher priority one.
Note: If a proposal has multiple items with different priorities, the highest priority will be used by Reallocation to find which items can be re-shuffled.
The following parameters are supported by Reallocation:
- Maximum saturation on the domain level will cap the goals-based proposal items (repetitions, impressions and budget), SoV campaign average, SoV daily average and SoV daily average per screen.
- Multi Time Zone.
The following parameters are not supported by Reallocation and will not trigger it:
- A mix dwell and prorated screens in the same proposal item.
- Proposals with items that have start dates/times in the past.
