Understanding Deal Prioritization
Users set deal priorities to control auction outcomes. The system bases these five priority levels on integers, but the Portal displays them as human-readable values. In decreasing order of importance, these specific levels are:
- Guaranteed
- High
- Medium (default priority)
- Low
- Very Low
Getting Started
You can set the priority value on your deal using the following methods:
- Via the Portal
- use the priority drop-down field in the bulk upload of Deals (Set up Multiple Deals)
- use the priority drop-down field in the Create/Edit Deal form (Set Up a Single Deal)
- Via the Admin UI
- use the priority drop-down field in the Deals tab
- Via the API
- read the documentation for the field and values
Usage
- Publishers can leverage priority settings to increase win rates or spend levels when a deal receives a sufficient number of bids but consistently loses to higher CPMs from competing deals at the same level. By adjusting deal priorities based on external information, publishers holistically manage yield beyond standard greedy auction logic.
- Setting a deal priority remains optional. If you leave this field blank, the system automatically assigns the Medium default value.
- Deals assigned the Guaranteed priority outrank all non-guaranteed deals, including those set to High, Medium, Low, or Space Available.
- Open Exchange bids are evaluated at a default priority of Medium.
- Order of evaluating an auction:
- Guaranteed deals (priority:10) (outcome: guaranteed deals win).
- Other Priority levels (outcome: highest priority [lowest integer value] wins).
- Pricing (outcome: highest price wins).
